Ferris Wheel

When you look into fairground rides for hire, you will soon see that the Ferris Wheel is one of the most popular choices. The Ferris Wheel debuted in the year 1893 in Chicago. William Somers designed and then built three wooden wheels. Each one measured over 50 feet high and they were originally called pleasure wheels. Find out more about the Ferris wheel history!

Bumper Cars

Electric cars might seem like quite a modern advancement but if you look at bumper cars, then you will soon see that they have been around for quite some time. They are usually included with every fairground stall hire service but there has been a dispute as to who created them. One thing that a lot of experts can agree on though is how hard they actually were to steer.

Carousel

Carousels were originally created with wooden horses. The original purpose of them was to try and give horse riding lessons to Arabian and Turkish cavalry members. When everyone returned to Europe, they chose to bring the device back with them. The spinning attraction became very popular in France and 17th century horsemen tried to pierce a target by moving at a very high speed. Read more about the history of the carousel!

Rollercoaster

The very first patent was received by LaMarcus Thompson in the year 1885. He wasn’t the first person to ever make a rollercoaster though. The first one actually descends from the Russian Mountains. Winter sleds were very popular and icy hills were used. Some of the hills descended over 200 feet high. In the US, a mining company then constructed the gravity railroad. This was made to move coal. On some of the slower days, they charged anyone who wanted to thrill-seek and let them take it for a spin. Read our rollercoaster history for more information.

Tunnel of Love

People who were not married in the 19th century really did need a place where they could canoodle in public. Couples would wind through and they would be subjected to various periods of romance. This would entice them to fall in love. Sometimes distractions were put in, to encourage one person to put their arm over the other person’s shoulder.

Mechanical Bull

Mechanical bulls were once strictly used to train cowboys and even rodeo competitors. It’s amazing to see how far things have come right now as they are being used to try and give people the thrill of their lives. It’s still a fun ride to this day and it’s very popular amongst fairground visitors.
