Daily Safety Checks for Funfair Rides
Did you know that funfair rides should be safety checked every single day they're in use? As these are large mechanical devices that can host thousands of people a day in rapidly-moving carriages, funfair ride safety is always of key importance for all fairground ride operators.
Every day, funfair rides have a trial run. This checks all the handles, brakes, harnesses, restraints and components to ensure they are all in working order. If anything amiss is noticed, the ride is not to be used until the problems have been rectified.
Daily safety checks for funfair rides require at least one complete operating cycle, and should consider features such as:
Any cabinets or boxes that contain hazardous equipment or prevent public access to hazards
Barriers, fences and walkways
Securing pins and locks
Communications equipment
Brakes
Safety controls
And everything else!

A funfair ride safety check should also consider all manufacturer, designer and supplier instructions, and should consider all components and parts that require daily inspections. This check should be completed in writing and documented, alongside any remedial action.
Not only must the check be completed thoroughly, but the individual completing the check must also have adequate knowledge and training.
All documentation relating to daily inspections for funfair rides ought to be stored for at least three years.
As well as daily inspections, more thorough periodic inspections should also take place. It's recommended that component parts that may require replacing are checked, and replaced well in advance of failure.
