Funfair Rides: Periodic Maintenance

We always ensure that any maintenance work is carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and maintenance schedules, or where these are not specified, we seek the advice of a competent person.
We know that prevention is better than cure, and so we also have a programme of planned preventive maintenance aimed at replacing components before they reach the end of their useful lives. We keep a supply of common components such as springs and catches, so that we can carry out maintenance work quickly and efficiently.
Condition monitoring is also an important part of our maintenance process. We record the condition of components and performance of systems at regular intervals so that we can detect gradual changes that might indicate a problem. For example, we might monitor the travel on a control lever or the readings on pressure gauges.
Welding and Hot Work
When welding or other hot work is needed as part of maintenance, we take extra precautions to ensure that we are not making any safety-critical modifications without carrying out the necessary design reviews, ACDs and/or initial tests. We always take advice from a competent IB before doing any welding or hot work on our devices.
If we do find a crack in any of our devices, we never try to repair it without consulting the manufacturer or a competent person first. We know that the manufacturer needs to know about any problems so that they can investigate and remedy the cause, and we always ensure that any welding is done correctly and with the correct materials.
Before we allow any of our funfair rides to operate following maintenance, we always make sure that any protective devices that may have been removed are replaced, secured and operational.
