Amusement parks or fairgrounds are found all over the world, and here in the United Kingdom, we have our fair share of fairground rides and attractions as well. Everyone is familiar with a fairground, and most of us have probably spent a good amount of time enjoying everything the fairground has to offer – from fabulous thrill rides such as roller coasters to food stalls offering everything from ice cream to popcorn to candy floss and more. Nowadays, fairgrounds have added to their range of rides and attractions as well, and you can now find bungee trampolines, wall climbing facilities, and even virtual reality games and features that are sure to delight anyone of any age. However, there is still something so unique, special, and nostalgic about the most popular fairground rides and attractions, and if you are planning a fairground event, you should include at least a few – if not all – of these rides and attractions in your event. What are these rides and attractions, then? Let's find out.
The carousel
The carousel is the most recognisable of all fairground rides and attractions, and everyone can see it even from a distance. It’s an elegant ride for sure, and it has been popular for centuries. The carousel ride is made up of a platform, and this platform rotates with seats that can move up and down as it moves. The seats of a carousel can be quite special, consisting of plastic, fibreglass, or wood and moulded to look like animals such as cats, rabbits, deer, giraffes, fish, and, of course, the ubiquitous and famous horses. It's a fun ride for the whole brood, and people young and old always enjoy a good spin on a carousel.
The bumper car
The bumper car is another iconic attraction in a typical fairground, and it is one of the most popular funfair rides for hire in the UK and other countries. Bumper cars, also known as dodgem cars, were introduced as far back as the 1920s, but their popularity has never waned. They feature in a big pen or ring with floors made from graphite so there is less friction, and the rider can simply climb onto the bumper car that runs on electricity, which draws its energy from an overhead power grid. The rubbers placed on the bumpers of the cars keep them safe even if riders 'bump' and crash into each other, and this makes them a fun experience for the entire family as well.
The Ferris wheel
Another common sight in any carnival, amusement park, or fairground, the Ferris wheel has certainly been around for decades. Of course, we are now all familiar with the London Eye, but many a kid and adult has fond memories of being in a standard Ferris wheel in a fairground and being so afraid to open their eyes for fear of becoming dizzy at that height. If you want your fairground event to be the ultimate success – and to attract the best attention – then a Ferris wheel is a definite must-have.
There are now other rides and attractions which have also become very popular, including the scrambler, the tilt-a-whirl, and more, so all you have to do is choose from the varied list and your fairground event and occasion will be a roaring success.
