Rotor - Gravity Ride

'FEEL THE FORCE' screams the branding on the front of this daunting, visually stunning white knuckle ride. The message is clear – this is a ride for the older and bigger daredevils only!

As our range of funfair rides for hire goes, this is up there with the most white-knuckle and thrilling of them all. Your guests will love being spun at speed and pushed back against the ride's walls as gravity takes effect. Resistance is futile as the force pins them in place!

Because of the nature of this fairground ride, and many of our fairground hire options, this white knuckle ride is suitable for events where there will be older children and young adults in attendance. It is not suitable for younger guests, however fearless they may be!

Nonetheless, the Rotor Gravity ride still has a place at almost every kind of event you could imagine. It can be hired for high school celebrations, sports club family parties and many other kinds of fun-filled days and nights. From corporate fun days and conferences to private parties and weddings, we do it all at We Are Tricycle!

When you hire the Rotor Gravity ride from us, all you need to worry about is how your body copes with the ride – everything else can be left to us. We'll bring the ride to the location of your event on the date you specify and we'll assemble it. We'll supervise your guests as they take the terrifying ride and then, when your event has drawn to a close, we'll dismantle the ride and take it away with us again.

Rotor & Crazy Cage: How They Work | UK Hire

How the Rotor and Crazy Cage Pin You to the Wall

These classic spinning rides use circular motion to press riders firmly against the inner wall of a rotating chamber. As speed builds, riders remain held in place. Here is the physics and the engineering that make it happen, and how we deliver it as part of Fairground & Funfair Hire.

The forces you feel inside the drum

Centripetal force

The wall pushes inward on the rider to keep them moving in a circle. This inward push is the true force acting on the rider.

Apparent centrifugal effect

Your body’s inertia resists the constant change in direction, so you feel an outward push. It is the sensation that results from inertia in a rotating frame.

Inertia

Left alone, your motion would continue in a straight line. The rotating wall continually redirects you, creating the circular path.

Friction

The normal force between you and the wall multiplies friction. Once speed is high enough, friction exceeds your weight so you do not slide when the floor lowers.

Rotor - Gravity Ride: how it operates

The Rotor is a vertical drum. Riders stand against a padded circular wall. The drum accelerates to high angular speed. At a set threshold, the floor retracts. Riders remain “stuck” because the inward normal force from the wall creates enough friction to counteract gravity. When speed is reduced, friction falls and the floor rises before anyone can slip.

Configuration Upright spinning cylinder with retractable floor
Seating/stance Standing positions with individual bays and padding
Key sensation Outward press, gentle lift, sustained spin
Control Programmable drive ramps, speed interlocks, floor interlock

Operations use angle and speed feedback to confirm the drum is at the required rpm before floor retraction. Emergency systems apply controlled braking and raise the floor automatically.

Crazy Cage: how it differs

Crazy Cage delivers a similar wall-pressing sensation inside a steel mesh “cage.” Depending on model, riders may stand or use light support bars. The visual openness heightens the effect while the underlying physics remains the same: inward push from the wall, inertia creating the outward-feel, friction keeping riders in place when the platform lowers or when the cage reaches steady speed.

Configuration Open-grid drum or cage with standing bays
Visual feel Panoramic view through mesh for extra sensation
Key sensation Strong outward-feel with added visual exposure
Control Drive speed hold, operator HMI, safety interlocks

Placing these rides at your event

  • Clear circular footprint with defined queue and exit lanes.
  • Operator-managed loading sequence with safety checks for stance and height.
  • Acoustic and lighting packages available to match your site style.
